Are you willing to work in plant operations but unsure how to start and have no qualifications? Do not worry—the CEST team is here to help you. Initially, to step into plant operations, you need to gain a CPCS Red Trained Operator Card, but before that, you must also complete safety requirements. Let’s go through a few steps while applying for this card.
Steps to Apply for the CPCS Red Trained Operator Card
- Health, Safety, and Environment Test: You must pass the CITB Health, Safety, and Environment test, which is mandatory to ensure safety at the construction site. This test is only valid for two years from the date you passed it. The CITB test must be valid when applying for the CPCS Red Trained Operator Card.
- CPCS Theory Test: Once you complete the first step, you must complete your theory test as per your module. Make sure you appear for the theory test within your CITB test validity.
- CPCS Practical Test: After completing steps 1 and 2, you need to apply for a practical test, which can be done while your CITB Health, Safety, and Environment test is valid and within six months of your theory test.
The Red Trained Operator card is valid for two years from the issue date.
Extension and Additional Two-Year Validity
The CPCS Red Trained Operator card is valid for two years only, but you can opt for an extension or an additional two years of validity.
- Extension: To extend your card validity for another year, your card should not expire and should have a validity of 12 months. You must enroll for an NVQ/SVQ as per your category, and your CITB test should be valid; this will give you an extension of 12 months on your Trained Operator card. Once you complete your NVQ/SVQ, you can upgrade your card to a CPCS Blue Competence Card.
- Additional Two Years: If your red-trained operation has expired for more than a year, you must pass or hold a valid CITB test and a valid CPCS Theory and Practical Test. Enroll in NVQ/SVQ as per your category, giving you another 2-year validity on your card.
