Course Overview

The SSSTS Course, also known as the Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme, is a health and safety training program designed specifically for site supervisors in the construction industry, with a unique focus on the heating and ventilation section. It provides supervisors with the knowledge and skills to fulfil their legal job duties regarding construction site health, safety, welfare, and environmental issues with construction work.

Eligibility to Complete the Course:

• You should have a valid photo ID.
• You should be able to speak, read, and write English.
• You should have more than one year of experience.

Key Components of the SSSTS Course

The Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) is a widely recognized course designed for construction site supervisors or those aspiring to be in supervisory roles. The course is practical and focuses on health and safety regulations, risk assessment, and the responsibilities of supervisors on site.

• Understanding Health and Safety Legislation: Learning about the safety rules for construction sites, like Health and Safety at Work, to avoid accidents and maintain other laws that keep people safe.
• Risk Assessments and Method Statements: Conducting risk assessments to identify hazards and implement appropriate control measures. The course emphasizes the importance of method statements and informative toolbox talks to ensure ongoing safety awareness among the workforce when planning safe work practices.
• Accident Prevention and Reporting: Managing accident prevention and reporting and properly investigating incidents and near misses to prevent recurrence, including RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases, and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations).
• Duties and Roles of a Supervisor: Learning about the importance of leadership, effective communication, and developing skills to manage site workers, including motivating teams, enforcing health and safety standards, and setting a good example on-site.
• Final Assessment: At the end of the course, there is usually a multiple-choice test to assess participants' grasp of the material. Implement effective monitoring systems to ensure safe work practices and promptly address unsafe behavior or conditions. To obtain the certificate, participants must pass the assessment. The SSSTS certificate is a valuable credential valid for five years, reflecting their ongoing commitment to safety.
